I tried using clove, black pepper with turmeric, ginger cinnamon with warm water. They all are very helpful. Thank you so much.

Great combination of education and practical tips

The educational sections helped me understand the reasoning behind the recommendations, while the recipes and food suggestions showed me how to actually apply them. That combination made the guide much more useful.

Body mind reset

I heard about Dr. Hyman when he was a guest speaker on the Megyn Kelly podcast. He was very information and his talk peaked my interest.I have been trying to lose weight for some time now, but I've not been successful. Since the start of the year I began weight/ strength lifting using another book from Michael Matthews (recommend).I have struggled with food and watching what I consume. I read Dr. Hyman's book and tried the 10 day diet. I lost weight and I feel better and it's easy to do. I'm more aware of the groceries I purchase for me and my family. I needed this to help me kick my sugar addiction.I highly recommend if you need a reset. I was tired of going to my PCP to only try to shove pills down my throat. Getting educated about healthy eating is a must if you're tired of being sick and tired.

I especially enjoyed the food section

The food recommendations were one of the strongest parts for me. I discovered combinations and ingredients I hadn't considered before, and the recipes gave me ideas for making healthier meals more interesting.

READ THIS AND CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOR THE BETTER NOW!!!

33% of Americans are verging on type 2 diabetes and do not know it.This should make you run to get this book!Following Glucose goddess on Instagram and got her book as well. It is easy to read, with fun illustrations by the author. She has truly helped me so much with my insulin resistance and managing my glucose spikes. "Lifestyle optimization" is an essential for everyone. Why wait until you are diagnosed? These hacks are simple, fun, and super easy. Her audiobook is also out now and is read by the author!! Which is awesome. What makes this book even MORE useful though, is if you invest in a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and have the app. I had the Freestyle Libre sensor. Each sensor lasts 2 weeks on the skin and logs your real-time glucose levels 24/7. Way better than doing the old fashioned painful and wasteful lancet and test strips. Although you can verify your CGM occasionally using the lancet, and see how accurate the CGM is. You can have a CGM prescription written for you if you INSIST at your nurse practitioner's. (NPs are WAY more open to this kind of experimentation and self-monitoring...I got the rebuff from the doctor, HA!)What is so sad is that the healthcare system is so broken that insurance will NOT cover a CGM UNTIL you have full-blown type 2 diabetes and are dependent on exogenous insulin delivery. OR if you are a type 1 diabetic and born without the ability to process glucose. Sad huh? The FDA wants you sick, fat, ugly, and miserable. We are MUCH better desperate customers then...willing and eager to take any pills to solve the problems!Let's not be proactive and encourage the PATIENT to take measures against type 2 diabetes, right? So there are MANY benefits of managing glucose. Fairly effortless weight loss actually. In this book she dives into nutrition science and the biochemistry of different sugars as well. She has so much credibility and science-driven data backed up by her own personal journey as well as many peer-reviewed articles.Thank you Jessie!

Much easier to follow than random health advice

Before reading this, I was constantly seeing conflicting advice online. I liked having one organized guide that I could read from beginning to end and use as a reference.

Finally, a guide with a plan

I have read plenty of articles about blood sugar, but most of them leave you wondering what to do next. This guide gives you a 30-day structure, which made the information feel much more organized and manageable.

This program works -- try it and see for yourself!

Listen to this man -- he knows what he is talking about. I have been on the diet for 5 full weeks now and saw my sugars drop from 230 to 123, have lost 15 pounds, and have journaled an entire page of positive changes. I have been using both the cookbook and the recipes in the 10-day detox diet book. Honestly, I don't miss the gluten, dairy, and grain products one bit. And I don't believe I will resume eating them when I get to my weight and glucose level goals. I'm hopeful that I will be able to get off or significantly reduce my medications, and am looking forward to my next doctor's visit!Thank you Mark Hyman! I have recommended your program to other folks -- some of whom want to embrace a healthier way of eating and others who are struggling to bring their glucose readings under control. There is life after diabetes.

Worth keeping as a reference

This isn't something I wanted to read once and forget about. There are so many lists, recipes, and practical suggestions that I know I'll keep coming back to it when planning meals.

I like the book and love the recipes, but can be a little confusing compared to the book

I like the book and love the recipes. I have especially enjoyed the expanded breakfast options. My husband and I are both on the detox and like trading off the breakfasts between the shakes and egg recipes. I do agree that the shopping and prep is time consuming but I was glad we didn't let that intimidate us. Now that we are midway through another 10 days, I feel like we have it down. We went through the book and made a menu plan for the week. We shop on Saturday and on Sunday, I prep everything that I can for the week. We make ahead any slaws or sauces that would hold. In addition, I roast several pieces of boneless skinless chicken or turkey breast. I slice them up and put them in bags that are ready to go for lunches for the week. We also will have it on hand in case something unplanned occurs. If so, we just reheat them and steam some veggies for a quick dinner. We found our appetites reduced and my blood sugar was normal for the first time in a long time. Finally, I was disappointed that there was a picture of chia pudding on the cover but was unable to find a recipe for it in the book. Same with the third photo down. It appears to be some sort of ice cream and we did not see it in the book either. The most crticial thing that I find confusing is, in the 10 day diet detox book, Dr. Hyman was very specific about making sure you used the recipe on the day that he had listed. While I know to only eat red meat once in every 10 day cycle, it does not give any guidelines about what recipes to eat each day. I felt this was confusing and a change of message from the book to the cookbook. I was unable to find any guidelines of the change so we are going to try the mix and match this week and see how it goes. I just wish he had spoken to this change. I lost 13 lbs during the first 10 days and I am worried that mixing and matching might impact future results. Otherwise, the recipes so far have been wonderful.

Awesome book to improve overall health!

This is an awesome book! I'm so glad the author wrote this! I learned so much! The title is Blood Sugar Balancing Handbook, but it's a great handbook for basic overall health. The author explains things in simple terms and gives just enough information to inform, but not overwhelm, and motivate the reader to make simple and practical healthy choices which are clearly defined in the book. It was so interesting I couldn't put it down and have since referred back to it as a handbook. The recipes are great. I've tried two of them so far and really liked them. This book is going to be my go-to for birthday gifts for friends and family. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't benefit from this book!

Perfect for someone who doesn't know where to begin

If you're overwhelmed by all the information online about blood sugar and healthy eating, this guide gives you a starting point. I liked having everything organized in one place instead of searching through dozens of websites.

This Book is a Game-Changer

This book is life-altering. I was skeptical at first but my good friend had completed the detox and said she lost a lot of weight. Once I got into it, not only did I eat a lot of delicious food, but I lost 5 pounds in ten days and my chronic nagging health conditions all seemed to improve: less achiness in my joints, better skin consistency, clearer sinuses, even my vision slightly improved. In fact, the plan was so easy and the food so good, that I stayed on the diet and after 3 weeks had lost 13 pounds. I am 57 years old, 5'7" and holding steady at 132 pounds. I look good in my clothes again. I eat all that I want but on Dr. Hyman's recommendation, I have eliminated gluten -- most likely permanently, and I'm trying to have just an occasional piece of cheese now and then. Thanks to all the supplements he recommends, especially the fiber PGX, I'm never hungry. No more cravings, ever! I haven't had blood work taken since I began this diet four months ago but will be very curious to see the pathology at my next physical. Thank you Dr. Hyman!

Never felt better!

I bought the 10-Day Detox book and then ordered this cookbook after we decided to just stay on the diet. I have suffered from joint pain, bloating, swelling and just plain feeling like crap for several years now. I've been through the Western medicine ringer, if you will. Fed up, I started looking into Ayurveda and stumbled upon Dr. Hyman's newsletter and then decided to do the 10-Day Detox Diet. I made everyone in the house follow it since I figured I'm the household cook and it would make my life easier if everyone was on it together. For the first time in 7 years I lost weight (I've done several cleanses and would only lose 3-4 lbs and those pounds that came right back). We have been on the detox diet for nearly 5 weeks now and I've lost 15 lbs and my husband has lost 18 lbs. But the most important thing is that by the 6th day I realized my joint pain was almost entirely gone (I had been living a life of pain 24/7). My "lupus" symptoms all but disappeared making me question the diagnosis altogether. This diet has been a game-changer for me. I suspected I had a gluten sensitivity, but it turned out to be far worse than I thought and my husband has a severe dairy intolerance, both of these were identifiable as a result of the 10-day detox and then reintroducing food items one at a time. When I introduced a small amount of gluten back into my diet I became quite ill and my knees and hands began to hurt almost instantly. This diet is the best medicine I've ever taken and we have decided to make this our new "life diet." I am a total foodie and a very creative cook so I've taken some liberties with the recipes that have taken them to an all new level. I post the meals on our FB page and my friends and family keep asking for the recipes. While it is challenging to maintain the diet, especially as two professional people who have demanding jobs, once you figure out what you can and can't have and learn the new recipes it gets easier. Tip: Make big dinners so you have leftovers for lunch the next day, it will save a ton of time! I highly recommend this diet to anyone, it just makes you feel better overall. If you are struggling with health issues I strongly encourage you to give it a try, it has changed our lives.

Packed with useful ideas

There is a lot more here than I expected from a digital guide. I found information about foods, meal ideas, recipes, daily habits, and ways to structure the 30 days. I keep going back to different sections.

The recipes were my favorite part

What stood out to me most were the recipes. They are much more practical than simply being told what foods to avoid. I found several meals that I actually wanted to try and added them to my weekly routine.

The 30-day format kept me motivated

I really liked the day-by-day approach. Instead of trying to change everything overnight, the guide gives you a structure to follow. It made the process feel much less overwhelming.

How to cook a nutritious meal rather than reach for something easy, quick and most likely full of...

I'm anxious to start trying some of the delicious recipes. I've not been much of a cook during my 35 years of marriage (thankfully I have a husband who loves to cook), but I started the 10 Day Detox diet on January 1 and started cooking daily. It does take some time to think about how to cook a wholesome, nutritious meal rather than reach for something easy, quick and most likely full of unhealthy ingredients. Since January 1 I've lost 11 pounds. That's not a lot of weight, but I have hypothyroidism and my doctor said it's actually wonderful weight loss for my body chemistry. I've also dropped about 10 points in blood pressure, and I've seen HUGE improvement in eczema. So I bought the cookbook for further inspiration to continue my change in eating habits- and the book is indeed inspirational. As I said, it takes an investment in time, an investment in quality ingredients, and an investment in supplements. (By the way, I don't buy my supplements from Dr. Hyman, but I certainly respect his opinions and follow his suggestions. He said plainly in his book that you're welcomed to purchase these supplements anywhere). So I don't spend money at the spa - I spend it at the grocery store buying the best quality food I can afford because I'm able and I'm willing to make the investment in myself. Thanks Dr. Hyman for writing this book and encouraging us to be as healthy as we can be. It's a wonder what you're body can do to fix ailments if you it nourish properly!

Worth reading to better understand blood sugar, but don’t limit yourself to this one resource

My mother had type 2 diabetes and ultimately died from related kidney failure. For years I have exercised and managed my diet in an effort to avoid a similar fate. I was therefore stunned during a recent doctor's appointment when it was revealed that my hemoglobin A1c was above normal limits. I immediately ordered a continous glucose monitor and was dismayed to see that my blood glucose levels were regularly exceeding what would be considered normal. I am now trying to learn as much as possible about preventing these elevated glucose levels. In my research I was led to Jessie Inchauspe (Glucose Goddess on Instagram) and decided to buy her book, The Glucose Revolution. I will say that the majority of the information in this book is available for free on her Instagram account. However, I like the simplicity of reading through the book rather than scrolling through posts and reels. The author gives a thorough overview of glucose, explaining the different forms and how they act in our bodies. She explains glucose spikes and has a really good explanation of what the hemoglobin A1c test is measuring. She then shares 10 hacks to help lower your blood sugar levels that I feel are relatively easy to incorporate into your eating plan. Some of them, like eating dessert over a sweet snack (eat a sweet food after a meal rather than on its own) were things that I have already been doing intuitively.I do wonder at the description of our stomachs as a sink and the intestine as the pipe below. She claims that when we eat carbs first, they flow uninterrupted into the intestine. Drawing on information from my college nutrition classes many years ago, I seem to remember that chemical digestion begins in your mouth and that because of the churning in your stomach, the food that you eat will all be mixed around and therefore it doesn't really matter what order you eat your foods in. That being said, it's a relatively minor thing to eat a veggie starter and/or eat foods in the described order.I also question the idea that our blood sugar shouldn't rise more than 30 points after eating. If my blood sugar is at 80, that means after eating my glucose level should not be above 110. That is well below the generally accepted rise to 140. I'm not saying that we should always be going to that level, but even a modest rise to 120 would not be accepable according to the standards presented in the book.Of note, the author does not have diabetes or prediabetes and started the Glucose Goddess after working for a company that was developing continuous glucose monitors.Overall, I do think this book is worth reading to better understand blood sugar. I wouldn't limit your knowledge to just this one source of information though. I've been slowly working through articles and videos published on the Nourished by Science website. I really appreciate the perspective offered there. Women entering menoupause might want to investigate the effects of decling estrogen on their blood glucose levels too. The New Menopause by Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a fantastic book on this stage of life.
